Dom's Chooks

Dom has been talking a lot over the last couple of years about having chooks at Corona. So Tim organised a couple of pullets from an older lady who lives further down the road and breeds chooks as a hobby. When he collected them from work, it turned out there was a bantam hen and 6 half grown chickens!

Dom had a grin from ear to ear when he opened the box in the laundry and found them. Heidi and Claire were also very interested in them. So after we got back from church Sunday morning, Tim brought over an old birdcage which will be their temporary home until the chook pen can be built.

 They seem to have settled in now and are happy in their little home, altho it won't be long before they outgrow it. Dom has named the hen Kayla, the grey and white one Frizzle and one of the others Cheeky as it is pretty keen to peck if you put a finger in the cage. So far he has been quite happy to feed them and has spent a lot of time out there watching them.

This afternoon we went to Toyworld to spend some money that Dom was given for his birthday by a friend and his cousins Thea, Neeve and Molly. After looking around for 15 minutes or so and learning how to read price tags, Dom spied a set of farm animals including a hen and chickens, and that was it. On the weekend he drew quite a detailed plan for a chook pen, including lots of different fowls, so he is really enjoying them.

It is also nice to see he hasn't forgotten Sunshine. A few times he has gone out and spent 5 or 10 minutes chatting to him and has even told me how Sunshine would feel very sad if he didn't spend time with him and he doesn't want him to think he's been forgotten. Sweet boy.
